Keeping Your New Baby Safe

     Parrotlet safety. Your home can be a very dangerous place for your new baby. When out of the cage, please use precautions. Ceiling fans need to be turned off. Space heaters and other sources of heat should be kept away. Parrotlets do not understand their small size, and may try to pick fights with dogs, cats & other pets. It is instinct for most other animals to kill/eat birds, so please use caution. Self cleaning ovens emit fumes that are toxic to birds, do not use them even if your parrotlet is in another room, the fumes will get to them. 

     Your home contains many products that are dangerous for birds. Many household cleaners contain toxic fumes, Febreze is a common one. Scented candles and waxes, some scents are ok, but some are very toxic, and the only way to know, it when it's too late. Essential oils can also be deadly to your baby. Chlorine bleach, ammonia & phenols all contain dangerous vapors. Use caution when applying aerosol deodorants, hairspray & perfumes. The vapors from hair dye can also harm your bird.

     Please refrain from cooking with cookware coated in Teflon or any non-stick surface, fumes are emitted that are deadly to birds. Smoking around your birds can cause chronic eye problems, respiratory disease & skin irritation.  chronic eye problems, skin irritation and respiratory disease.  Even if you smoke outside, wash your hands before touching your bird. AIR FRYERS are deadly! Most contain Teflon coatings, which emit fumes toxic to birds. 

     As a responsible breeder, I feel obligated to educate everyone in parrotlet safety. I want my babies to go to safe, happy homes.
