OMNIFIT 35 Slab is a Glass Mineral Wool slab, designed to improve the thermal conductivity of your home or work environment. It is non-combustible insulation with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification and is manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s unique bio-based binder, ECOSE Technology. The slabs are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria. These durable slabs when installed correctly have a never-ending life span. Omnifit slabs contain no ozone-depleting substances or greenhouse gases.

Key Features:

  • Designed to friction fit between timber studs, which prevents air movement and infiltration through or around the insulation, minimising heat loss.
  • Ready cut to allow quick and simple installation, maximising on-site efficiency when compared with alternative insulants.
  • Non-combustible
  • Provides thermal as well as acoustic performance.
  • Easy to handle and install
  • It is CFC as well as HCFC free
  • Allows for quick and simple installation, maximising on-site efficiency compared to alternative insulants.
  • Extremely durable and long lasting.
  • Awarded the DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ label. No ingredients in the product that are on the red list – including formaldehyde or phenol.

The Knauf Omnifit 35 Slabs are tightly compact and lightweight which makes storing and handing easy, as well as installing the insulation. For longer-term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors or undercover and off the ground. The slabs polythene packs are designed for short term protection only and they should not be left permanently exposed to the elements. Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products are easier to install correctly than other insulation materials such as rigid boards as their flexibility allows them to adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, eliminating any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving a high-quality thermal performance.

The Omnifit slab 35 is available in size 1200mm by 400mm or 600mm, to suit spacing commonly used in timber or steel frame applications. The slab provides a thermal conductivity of just 0.035W/mK and thicknesses ranges from 50mm to 150mm. Omnifit slabs are easily cut to size if necessary, using a sharp blade such as a Stanley knife. A heavy ruler or plank of wood can be used to hold the slab as its being cut, and a mat is recommended to ensure the floor or surface is not scratched when cutting.

ECOSE Technology is an innovative, new, formaldehyde free binder technology, centred on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals. It lessens embodied energy and provides superior environmental sustainability. ECOSE Technology was developed for glass and rock mineral wool insulation but offers the same potential advantages to other products where resin-substitution would be an advantage, such as in wood-based panels, abrasives and friction materials.

Earthwool Omnifit Slab 35 offers negligible resistance to the passage of water vapour and have a water vapour resistivity of 5.00 MNs/g.m. whilst the Omnifit slabs cannot completely soundproof a space they provide excellent sound absorption characteristics by reflecting the sounds back to the source and reducing the soundwaves travelling through the walls.

Knauf Omnifit Slabs can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:

  • Timber Frame Construction
  • Steel Frame Construction

How to insulate a wall using timber frame applications?

  • Protective gear such as protective overalls, goggles, face masks, and gloves are recommended to prevent irritation caused by the Omnifit material.
  • Make sure the space is clean and tidy to prevent hazards. Outlets such as electrical sockets and openings such as windows should be taken into consideration before the insulation process begins.

Step 1:

Measure the widths between the timber frame studs and match the thickness of the timber frames with the slabs of insulation material being applied which is typically a depth of 90mm or 140mm. Measure the length of the timber frame wall to work out the number of slabs that need to be applied and cut slabs where necessary to fit smaller spaces using a sharp blade.

Step 2:

The Omnifit slab can then be firmly but carefully pushed into place, making sure all the edges are in place and secure without flattening the material as this will affect the performance of the roll. Make sure any slab being joint together are tightly butted to avoid thermal bridging.

Step 3:

No fixings are required when fitting Omnifit slabs as the flexible material should fit snug between the timber frames. Complete the timber frame stud wall with plasterboard, the plasterboard can be applied to the timber frames using the necessary fixtures. It is then recommended to add joint tape and angle beads to the plasterboard to prevent cracking when plastered. The plasterboard can then be plastered and finished touches can be applied such as paint or wallpaper.

Please note this is just a guide only, and an architect or building professional should be consulted before starting any construction on insulation work on your property.

How to insulate a pitched roof at ceiling level

Before you begin –

  • Protective gear should be worn when installing Omnifit to avoid irritation to the skins and eyes. Protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and face masks are recommended.
  • If you loft space is not easily accessed, a specialist can be called out with equipment that can get the job done.

Step 1:

The Omnifit rolls are designed to fit between the rafters in the ceiling. The rolls should be laid out in between the rafters – starting from the furthest point of the ceiling and working your way back – and simply pressed into place, not so hard that the roll will flatten. The thickness of the rolls should match the depth of the rafters.

Continue until all the rafters at ceiling level are insulated. If two ends are being joint, ensure they are butted tightly together to avoid thermal bridging. Roll can be easily cut with a Stanley knife. For hard-to-reach areas of the loft space, longer objects such as a plank of wood can be used to push the insulation in place.

Step 2: If the loft is not being used as a living space

Another layer of the Omnifit roll should be laid horizontally over the vertical rafters started at the further point of the loft and work your way back until the entire ceiling space and rafters are covered. For a loft that is not being used for a living area, the insulation process if now complete.

This is a guide only and a professional builder, or architects should be consulted before any building projects start on your home. If insulation is not installed correctly, it can cost time and money to correct.

This is a guide only and a professional builder, or architects should be consulted before any building projects start on your home. If insulation is not installed correctly, it can cost time and money to correct.

Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm

Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is a high-quality insulation product that is designed to provide exceptional thermal and acoustic performance. Made from high-quality glass mineral wool, this product is easy to install and offers excellent fire resistance, making it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial applications.

Knauf uses ECOSE Technology, which is an innovative, new, formaldehyde free binder technology, centred on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals. It lessens embodied energy and provides superior environmental sustainability. ECOSE Technology was developed for glass and rock mineral wool insulation, but offers the same potential advantages to other products where resin-substitution would be an advantage, such as in wood-based panels, abrasives and friction materials.

The benefits of using Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm

One of the standout features of this product is its flexibility. Unlike traditional insulation products, which can be rigid and difficult to work with, Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is designed to be flexible, allowing it to be easily installed around pipes, cables, and other obstacles. This means that it can be used in a wide range of applications, including walls, roofs, and floors.

In addition to its flexibility, Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm offers excellent thermal performance, helping to keep buildings warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The product has a thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/mK, which means that it provides exceptional insulation against heat transfer. This can help to reduce energy bills and improve the overall comfort of a building.

Another key benefit of Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is its acoustic performance. The product has a density of 33 kg/m³, which means that it is an effective sound barrier, helping to reduce noise pollution within a building. This can be particularly important in commercial applications, such as offices or schools, where noise levels can be high.

In terms of fire resistance, Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is classified as Euroclass A1, which means that it is non-combustible and does not release any harmful smoke or gases in the event of a fire. This makes it a safe and reliable choice for both residential and commercial applications.

How to install 140mm Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab

Installing Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is quick and easy, thanks to its flexible design and lightweight construction. The product is available in a range of thicknesses, including 140mm, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Once installed, it requires very little maintenance, helping to keep costs low over the lifetime of a building.

  1. When it comes to installing Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm, it is a fairly straightforward process that can be completed using basic tools and equipment. Before beginning the installation process, it is important to ensure that the area to be insulated is clean and free from any debris or obstacles.
  2. Once the area is ready, the insulation can be cut to the desired size using a sharp utility knife or scissors. The insulation should be cut slightly larger than the space it will be installed in, to allow for any compression that may occur during installation.
  3. Next, the insulation can be placed into the desired location, ensuring that it is fitted tightly and snugly against any pipes or other obstacles in the area. If necessary, the insulation can be secured using insulation clips or wire.
  4. It is important to ensure that there are no gaps or spaces between the insulation and the surrounding surfaces, as this can reduce its effectiveness. Any gaps or spaces can be filled using additional insulation, or with a sealant such as silicone.
  5. Finally, the insulation can be covered with a suitable protective layer, such as plasterboard or other finish materials, to provide additional protection and a finished appearance.

Correctly storing Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm

Proper storage of Knauf Insulation Flexible Slab – 140mm is essential to ensure its effectiveness and longevity. The insulation should be stored in a dry and ventilated area, protected from exposure to moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.

If the insulation becomes damp or wet, it should be allowed to dry completely before use, as any moisture can reduce its thermal and acoustic performance. The insulation should also be kept away from any potential sources of ignition, as it is combustible and can pose a fire hazard.

When storing the insulation, it is important to avoid compressing or crushing it, as this can reduce its insulating properties. Instead, the insulation should be stored in its original packaging or on a flat surface, with no heavy objects placed on top.

It is also important to handle the insulation carefully when moving or transporting it, to avoid any damage or deformation that could affect its performance. If the insulation has been stored for an extended period of time, it should be inspected for any signs of damage or deterioration before use.

How to install 50mm Knauf RS140 Building Slab

Installing the Knauf RS140 Building Slab – 50mm is a relatively simple and straightforward process that requires a few basic tools and equipment. Before beginning the installation process, it is important to ensure that the work area is clean and free of debris, and that all necessary safety precautions have been taken.

First, measure the area where the insulation will be installed and cut the RS140 Building Slab – 50mm to the appropriate size and shape using a saw or utility knife. Be sure to wear appropriate safety gear, such as gloves and eye protection, when cutting the insulation.

Next, carefully position the RS140 Building Slab – 50mm in the desired location, ensuring that it fits snugly and securely. For best results, it is recommended to use mechanical fasteners, such as screws or staples, to hold the insulation in place.

Finally, be sure to test the insulation for any gaps or areas where air may be leaking through. This can be done using a smoke pencil or other similar tool, which will indicate any areas where the insulation may need to be adjusted or reinforced.

Correctly storing Knauf RS140 Building Slab 50mm

Proper storage of the Knauf RS140 Building Slab – 50mm is important to ensure that the insulation remains in good condition and is ready for use when needed. Here are some tips for storing the RS140 Building Slab – 50mm:

Store the insulation in a clean, dry, and ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup and mould growth. If the insulation gets wet, it may lose its insulating properties and become less effective.

Keep the insulation away from direct sunlight and sources of heat, such as radiators or heaters. Exposure to high temperatures can cause the insulation to degrade or lose its shape.

Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the insulation, as this can cause it to compress and lose its insulating properties.

If the insulation needs to be stored for an extended period of time, it is recommended to keep it wrapped in its original packaging or cover it with a protective layer, such as plastic or a tarp, to keep it clean and dry.

Check the insulation periodically for any signs of damage or deterioration. If the insulation appears to be damaged, discoloured, or compressed, it may need to be replaced.
